Rohit Sharma was taken aback by Shubman Gill's destruction of Lockie Ferguson during the third ODI between India and New Zealand in Indore.

Currently in rampant form, Shubman Gill will be aiming to bag a spot in India's squad for the upcoming ODI Cricket World Cup scheduled for later this year. The young opener also displayed his new-found confidence with a stunning double hundred in the first ODI of the ongoing three-match ODI series against New Zealand.

The swashbuckling batter slammed 208 runs off 149 balls as India raced to 349 for eight in 50 overs in Hyderabad. Chasing a target of 350 runs, New Zealand were bowled out for 337 in 49.2 overs, courtesy of a four-wicket haul by Mohammed Siraj as the hosts won by 12 runs. Rohit Sharma and Co. then followed it up with an eight-wicket victory in the second ODI, which saw New Zealand get bundled for 108 in 34.3 overs. The result helped India grab a series-clinching victory.

In the third ODI, the 23-year-old showed his batting ability to its fullest potential once again, destroying Lockie Ferguson in the eighth over of India's innings. Mocking the pacer's skills, Gill clobbered four fours and a six, that even Rohit was taken aback!

In the first delivery of the over, Gill received a wide, short of a length ball, which he drove straight down the ground, beating mid-off for a four. In the next delivery, he was beaten, as the ball held its line to go past the edge. In the third ball, Gill slammed the delivery past deep third for another four, following it up with a shot between mid-off and extra cover to make it back-to-back. In the fifth delivery, he received a short ball which he upper-cut over point for a stylish six that even Rohit couldn't believe it. In the final delivery, Shubman slammed Ferguson to cover point for a four, to make it 22 off the over.

Focus will be on Gill as the Men in Blue gear up for the ODI World Cup, especially with the team management trying to solve its openers' conundrum. After the ODI series, India will host New Zealand in a three-match T20I series. After the three-match T20I series, India will host Australia in a four-game Test series and three ODIs.
